The fundamental duties of the Indian Constitution have been influenced by the ‘Constitution of Russia’. 
In the section 4A of the Indian Constitution, the fundamental duties for civilians have been described under     Article-51A.

When the Constitution was found at that time fundamental duties were not added. In the 42nd and 86th Constitutional Amendment Acts fundamental duties were included. In 1976, the Congress Party formed a committee headed by Sardar Swaran Singh. To present his report in this regard during the National Emergency (1975-77). By this, 8 fundamental duties were added to the Constitution.

Article 51A. Fundamental Duties:

This will be the duty of every citizen of India.

1. To abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, national flag, and national anthem.
2. To follow great ideals which inspired our national struggle for independence.
3. To maintain and protect the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.
4. To protect the country on the call and to provide national service.
5. promoting the spirit of goodwill and common brotherhood among all the people of India who pursue religious, linguistic and regional or departmental diversity; Discarding abusive practices for women’s dignity.
6. To value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture.
7. To protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers, and wildlife and to make compassion for living beings.
8. Scientific temper, humanism and developing a sense of inquiry and improvement.
9. To protect public property and to eliminate violence.
10. To strive towards excellence in all areas of personal and collective activity so that the nation can reach a high level of continuous effort and achievement.
11. To provide opportunities for education by the parent the guardian, to his child, or award between the age of 6-14 years as the case may be.

Recommendations of the Sardar Swaran Singh Committee,8 fundamental duty were added, but two fundamental duty was added by the 42nd Constitution Amendment Act 1976. The 11th fundamental duty was also added by the 86th Constitutional Amendment Act 2002.
